Install Relay

Download Relay for your Mac or Windows computer and open it for the first time.

Before you start. You need your Relay invitation email. On a work computer, check with your IT team first if you can't normally install apps yourself. IT prerequisites lists what they'll need.

Step 1: Download Relay

Use the link in your invitation to set your password. Relay then takes you to the download page at app.relayins.com/download. You can also go there yourself and sign in.

Choose your computer. Relay for Mac needs an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later). To check, open the Apple menu › About This Mac and look for an M-series chip.

Step 2: On a Mac: drag Relay into Applications

Open the Relay DMG in your Downloads folder and drag Relay Browser onto the Applications folder in the installer window. Then open Relay from Applications.

Relay installs its updates only from the Applications folder. If you open it from somewhere else, it offers to move itself there.

The first time you save a carrier login, macOS may ask to let Relay use your keychain. Choose Always Allow.

Step 3: On Windows: run the installer

Open the Relay installer in your Downloads folder and follow its steps. Then open Relay Browser from the Start menu.

If Windows or your security software stops the installer, don't work around it. Ask your IT team.

Step 4: Keep Relay up to date

Relay downloads updates while you work. When one is ready, Update Relay appears at the bottom of the sidebar; restart when you're between quotes.

To check yourself, open your account menu (bottom left) › Help & training › App updates.

If a quote is running when you restart, Relay asks first and saves it. After Relay reopens, use Restore browser on the saved run to continue.

Something not working?

Relay says to move it to Applications.

Quit Relay, move Relay Browser into your Applications folder, then open it again. Updates can't install anywhere else.

I have an Intel Mac.

The Mac download is for Apple silicon (M1 or later). Ask your agency administrator what to use instead.
